Cori

CORI: it is situated at the slope of Lepini Mountains. Originally it was part of the Latin league and the town fighted against Rome, but after it became a Roman colony. Three concentric defensive walls, built in several periods, outline the map of the city. There are still the polygonal walls (VI and IV century B.C.) which are considered very important relics of all the history of Latium Region, and the ruins of the Temple of Hercules that is the symbol of the city. Churches have very important architectural and artistic treasures: S.Francesco, S. Maria della Pieta’, the complex of S.Oliva that has also the Museum of Territory inside. A small work of art, in the lowest part of the town, is the Church and oratory of Annunziata, completely painted by a valuable but unknown artist.
